Week 7 Fantasy

Loyal followers, this is the most important advice we provide every week. The docs put their heads together to give you the best Fantasy Football information available anywhere. And just to remind you, we do it for free. We're like those doctors who actually pay attention to that hypocratic oath thing...we help you, regardless of your ability to pay. You're welcome.

POINT-CLICK-DRAG-DROP Starters of the Week

QUARTERBACKS

Jay Cutler @ CIN- Cutler has earned a nice raise after his first five games in the Windy City, and going against the porous pass defense of the Bengals this week should make that raise look worth every penny. Cincy is 28th vs. the pass, and Cutler has thrown at least 2
TD passes in four straight games.

Eli Manning vs. AZ- QB's are feasting on the weak secondary (30th against the pass) of the Cards nearly every week. Garrard, Schaub and Peyton Manning have all had great days against them. Eli won't have to ask Peyton for advice either, because he threw for 240 and 3 TD's last year in the Cardinals' house.

Matt Ryan @ DAL- Dallas has given up good fantasy numbers to everyone they've faced, and only one, Eli Manning would be considered an elite QB. Still, Byron Leftwich, Kyle Orton and Matt Cassel were all able to produce at relatively high levels. The Cowboys also struggle mightily to pressure the passer, posting only 10 sacks in five games. Matty Ice has only been sacked twice, and both of those were in week 1 against Miami. Dallas is 26th vs. the pass, allowing 8 TD passes and only getting a pair of picks.

RUNNING BACKS

DeAngelo Williams vs. BUF- The Bills are coming off of a game that they won, but one in which they gave up over 200 yds. on the ground to the Jets. Williams should be able to match his performance from a week ago.

Marshawn Lynch @ CAR- The Panthers have struggled against the run all year (25th against the run). Lynch is now the definite feature back for the Bills, and should make some plays.

Joseph Addai @ StL- Addai is the 3rd best receiving RB in the league with 26 catches to date. Oh, and he has Manning throwing to him. Also, the Lambs are 28th in the NFL against the run.

Lawrence Maroney @ TB (in London)- Maroney becomes the starter since Sammy Morris(knee) is injured and Fred Taylor(ankle) is as well. Tampa, in addition to just being an awful team, just allowed over 250 yds. on the ground to Carolina.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Dwayne Bowe vs. SD- Bowe has been pretty dominant in 4 career games vs. the Chargers, he has averaged 6 catches for 84 yds. and has a pair of TD's. He's starting to heat up this season also, coming off of his best start, a 6 catch 109 yd. effort against the 'Skins.

Mario Manningham vs. AZ- This should be a good week to start Manningham, and really any Giants receiver. The Cards secondary gives up tons of yardage every week. Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson and Mike Sims-Walker all put up over 100 and a TD.

Donald Driver @ CLE- Driver had 7 catches for 107 last week against Detroit, and the Browns are 25th vs. the pass. So far Driver has put up 90 or more yds. in three games.

CONTROL-ALT-DELETE Bench Sitters

QUARTERBACKS

Donovan McNabb @ WAS- McNabb will struggle with his left tackle ailing. Also, he has 0 TD passes his last two meetings with the 'Skins, who are 6th against the pass.

Brett Favre @ PIT- Favre has only played one team with a pass D in the top 15, and that was Green Bay. The Steelers are just getting healthy, with Polamalu back at full strength. This is also Favre's first game outdoors since week one.

RUNNING BACKS

Rashard Mendenhall vs. MIN- The Vikes have allowed only 2 rushing TD's all year and Mendenhall's numbers have dwindled since his big game against the Chargers.

Steve Slaton vs. SF- In a pass happy offense, Slaton is averaging only 3 yds. per rush with a single TD.

WIDE RECEIVERS

T.O. @ CAR- He's turned into the invisible man. That's good in some ways, bad in his performance on the field.

Braylon Edwards @ OAK- His QB is suddenly looking a lot like a rookie QB, (one TD eight picks and a lost fumble the last 3 games). Edwards will have Asomugha in his face all day.

SLEEPING BEAUTIES

QB Matt Cassel vs. SD- This game will probably be an old fashioned AFL shootout, because neither team has a good defense. That should benefit Cassel...and our next Sleeper...

RB Larry Johnson vs. SD- Ditto.

WR Steve Breaston @ NYG- There's a good chance Anquan Boldin(ankle) will miss this game, or see limited playing time, which is good for Breaston. Last season, as a fill-in for Boldin, Breaston had 20 catches for 270 and 2 TD's in 3 games.

Week 7 NFL Picks

IIIt's FRIDAY!!!! Hello again sports fans, the Doctors are back with you and rarin' to go for another fabulous football weekend. There are some big NFL matchups on tap, and we're here for you with all the research and factoids you need. On to the picks.

San Diego -5 @ Kansas City

This one is a no brainer, even for doctors. As a matter of fact, we did this pick with one of our brains blindfolded just to make it fair. And we still realized that KC is a better offensive team than a defensive team. Well, see, they're 28th in total offense, and 29th in total defense. Add to that the fact that the Chargers are the #7 passing offense and KC proudly wears the badge of the 27th ranked pass defense, and you have a recipe for a major league thumping. "But," you may say, "Kansas City is on a roll, they won last week." Yeah, right, they beat the 2009 version of Snyder's Famous High Speed Commuter Train Wreck. That really doesn't count. Take the Chargers, give the points. It really is that simple.

Indianapolis -13 @ St. Louis

Wow, we're really racking up the fans in MO this week. Hey, all we're saying is that it is very fortunate that the Chiefs and Rams don't play this year in the regular season, because there is a good chance the ground would open and swallow both teams at some point in such an horrific matchup. Back to this gem. Peyton Manning is completing almost 75% of his passes this year, and is averaging 330 yds. per game, and the Rams usually just send out 5 or 6 guys on defense, no, wait, it just seems that way. Anyway, the Lambs are going to be the winner of the 'first team to face Bob Sanders coming back from injury' award, and Sanders should deliver that award with a significant amount of force. Even without Sanders, the Indy D has only surrendered 2 pass TD's all year. Ride the Colts, lay the points.

Minnesota +5.5 @ Pittsburgh

If you get points on a 6-0 team going against the defending Super Bowl champs, you take them. Three times in the Super Bowl era this very scenario has played out, and all three times the 6-0 team beat the defending champs. "Wow, what an astonishing stat. Where do you get all this knowledge?" Do you ask your vascular surgeon where he got his scalpel and what size it is? No. You just want him to fix your heart. We do the research, you reap the benefits. The Vikes have sacked opposing QB's 21 times this season, and the Steelers are allowing sacks with the best of them. Plus, the Vikes don't have any wusses on their D-line who can't manage to get Big Ben to the turf. Healthy Favre, healthy Peterson, one dimensional Steeler offense, take the Vikes and the points.

Miami +6.5 vs. New Orleans

Whhhaaatt? Who has kidnapped the docs and taken over the lab? Worry not, loyal followers. We have reasons for this UPSET SPECIAL. That's right, you heard it here first, the Dolphins are going to beat the Saints. The Miami Wildcat attack is back on the prowl this year, and with some good results. Ronnie Brown and company have the Dolphins ranked 3rd in rushing offense. QB Chad Henne has looked great in two starts filling in for Pennington. And, the Saints have never seen Miami's version of the Wildcat. That has not worked out well for first timers against it, just ask the Patriots. Take the 'phins and the points, and you won't be sorry.

Week 8 College Picks

Welcome back loyal followers, we were incommunacado for a few days due to technical issues, which have since been resolved. So, here's the obligatory....WE'RE BAAAACK. On to the important stuff, like how to line your pockets with green material due to the knowledge you glean from the doctors of footballology. But, of course, it's for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. If you've been paying attention, which, judging by our overstuffed inbox at insidehook@ymail.com, you definitely have been, we are 8-3 vs. the spread for the year. Not shabby. This weeks prescription for success is forthcoming. These picks are just what the Doctors ordered.

Georgia Tech -4 @ Virginia

Ga Tech is 6-1 thus far, and has won their six games by an average of 10 pts. This includes a road win at Florida St. and a big home win last week vs. VA Tech. Their single loss was on the road at Miami. Ok, so they're solid at home, and on the road, what's the point? Well, this week they're playing Virginia, who has racked up some impressive wins against some storied programs....like Week 1 vs. FCS school (formerly 1-AA) William and Mary. Oh, wait, they lost to William and Mary. Probably would've lost to Peter, Paul and Mary as well. Oh, what about that big win against Conference USA powerhouse, Southern Miss? No, they lost to the Golden Eagles also. We just think giving Virginia 4 pts. is like taking candy from a Cavalier. INSIDE PICK Georgia Tech.

Tennessee +14 @ Alabama

"Ok, docs, what's the deal here? Alabama is a much better team than Tennessee," you're saying to yourself. True, but Tennessee Head Coach Lane "I'm not ever calling Al Davis, if he wants to talk, he knows my number." Kiffin has a dad with a little experience with defenses. I think you might have heard of him. Monty? No, not the Let's Make a Deal, Monty, the Let's Build a Defense, Monty. Well, that Monty has been studying up on the film of the Crimson Tide for, oh, about 8 weeks now. I think with Lane's understanding of recruiting, this game has been circled on the Kiffin calendar. Lane knows that he doesn't have to win this game to appeal to recruits. He just has to keep it close. That way, he can tell Joe Recruit, "Look at that Florida score, we're just one piece of the puzzle away from winning that game, and you, Joe, are that piece!" I say Florida score, because they actually implemented a game plan involving milking the clock with 6 minutes to go, and down by 10. They had a 9 play 27 yard drive chewing up 4 minutes and 10 seconds, just to keep it close. They ran the ball instead of going into hurry up mode. I'm not making this up. So, bottom line, this week, more of the same, a boring, low scoring affair with Alabama winning by 9 - 12 points. INSIDE PICK Tennessee

Texas -14 @ Mizzou

Texas is a 14 pt. favorite for good reason. Mizzou, in recent years, has only come close to beating Texas once. That was the '04 28-20 loss with a QB who was a little hard to contain. You may have heard of him, All-Everything Brad Smith, currently a wideout with the J-E-T-S. The last two meetings, in '05 and '08 were Texas victories by 31 and 25 pts. respectively. And this year, Mizzou is 0-2 at home vs. the spread. One more tidbit, Texas Head Coach Mack Brown hasn't lost to the Tigers...ever. INSIDE PICK Texas

Arkansas +6 @ Ole Miss

Ole Miss was a preseason media darling due to one game from a year ago. Their upset win over Florida. QB Jevan Snead is a product of that media hype, and some hype was warranted, just not the good kind. Snead is on pace to break personal records for most int's, and LOWEST completion percentage. He's currently completing passes at a blistering 49% clip. And this guy was a preseason Heisman hopeful? Also, the Rebs lost 3 O-linemen from last years group, and 4 of their front 7 on defense. You've seen what Arkansas QB Ryan Mallet has looked like recently. Take the Hogs, take the points, and say WHOO PIG all the way home. INSIDE PICK Arkansas

Week 7 College Picks

Loyal followers, your loyalty to the doctors of footballology has not been in vain. After this past weekend, we are 6-1 in our prognostication of college football point spreads. You and your buddies could have had a nice tailgate party this weekend on your winnings, had you been following our advice. (for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY, AS USUAL) Let's not waste anyone's valuable time. Let's cut to the chase.

USC -10 @ Notre Dame

Ok, just an update for you domers, Charlie Weis is still the head coach, and is still the worst N.D. head man since Gerry Faust. There, we said it, and all of you who love the Golden Dome, the sometimes worn green jerseys, win one for the Gipper, RU-DY RU-DY, just cringed as if we drug our nails down a chalk board. Sometimes coaches are just a bad idea from one level to another, just as Faust's leap from High School to Notre Dame was a horrific idea, so is Weis from cheating NFL offensive coordinator to Notre Dame. Chubby has had such a bad run to this point, he tore his MCL and ACL when he was unable to get out of the path of continuing action into the sideline, much the same way he same way he has been unable to avoid the annual steamrolling courtesy of the Trojans. This year will be no different. Weis is 0-4 vs. USC, losing by an average of 24 pts. Freshman phenom Matt Barkley is at full strength, and the Trojans will again roll. INSIDE PICK U.S.C.

University of Miami -14.5 @ Central Florida

With Jacory Harris running the show, the U is back. And, as a general rule anytime you can get a midseason out of conference matchup you want to jump on it. The U took out Bobby Stoops and the Sooners, and with his players in his system, after 3 years, Head Coach Randy Shannon has the 'Canes clicking. In addition, Conference USA is not recognized by the BCS, and for good reason. 3 teams from C-USA West, and 2 from C-USA East should be eligible for the FCS (formerly 1-AA) playoffs. INSIDE PICK the U!!!

Oklahoma St. -7 vs. Missouri
Last week the Blackshirts of Nebraska drew up a blueprint in the 4th quarter of how to rattle Mizzou soph. QB Blaine Gabbert. They forced the first two picks of his career with relentless pressure. If the Cowboys can pressure him, in his first road conference game in hostile Stillwater, the 'boys will be golden. Last season, Ok St. took out the Tigers in Columbia, this time at home, and with Dez Bryant back, they'll be even better. INSIDE PICK Oklahoma St.

Texas -3.5 vs. Oklahoma

The theme of the season thus far for the Sooners is, oh how we miss our O-line from last year. A relatively slow BYU front was able to create havoc for Bradford, Miami exploited the lack of blocking, the Texas front seven will have a field day. Texas Head Coach Mack Brown has taken care of business against the Sooners 4 years in a row by an average of 17 pts. The Texas D creates pressure, forcing bad decisions, which has led to their 8 picks as a unit. INSIDE PICK Texas

Week 5 Fantasy Picks

Welcome back loyal followers, we, the doctors of footballology realize that the most important advice we provide is info on fantasy lineups. We want you to know, we're here for you. If we can help make you the star of your office by being the most dominant fantasy football player in any cubicle, then we've done our job.

As we have said before, there are certain players at given positions who should start regardless of the matchup. It seems that there may not be as many of those players this year as there have been in past years, but nevertheless, there are still some. Peyton Manning comes to mind as one of these players. He is putting up the best numbers of his career, and as you know, his career has been stellar. Keep him in your lineup no matter what. Drew Brees is another who has earned this distinction. Obviously, Minnesota's star RB Adrian Peterson has as well, but outside of these three, I'm not sure there are many more I would put in that category at the present. Week 5, here we go.

QB's That MUST START
Ben Roethlisberger-has a great matchup vs. Lions who are 25th against the pass. Ben's thrown well so far, should continue.
Matt Schaub- Should be a great week for him against the Cards D which ranks 30th against the pass, allowing 280 + yds. per game.

More QB's with good matchups
Joe Flacco vs. Bengals 26th against the pass
Matt Hasselbeck vs. Jags, 32nd vs. the pass, Hasselbeck's ribs should be feeling better.

QB Sleeper alert (start if your starter is on a bye)
Matt Cassel-might be the only time you would consider starting him, Cowboys are 29th vs. the pass.

Don't Do It (avoid these guys for this week)
Eli Manning- injured heel, and going against Raider D that has allowed just 4 TD passes.
Kyle Orton - going against Pats 7th ranked pass D

RB's MUST START
Brandon Jacobs- Raiders are 26th against the run, Giants will lean on him with Eli ailing.
Knowshon Moreno- Buckhalter is out this week, Moreno will carry heavier load, Pats gave up some good fantasy pts. to RB Ray Rice

Favorable Matchups RB's
Brian Westbrook
- should start vs. Bucs 30th ranked rush defense
Rashard Mendenhall- He'll stay on a roll vs. the Lions who give up 100 + yds. per game
Tim Hightower- vs. Texans 29th ranked run D. And he catches the ball well out of the backfield

Sleepers
Marshawn Lynch
vs. the Browns
Larry Johnson vs. the Cowboys

Avoid at all Costs
Kevin Smith vs. Steelers 3rd ranked run D
Thomas Jones Monday night vs. Dolphins. Only allowing around 60 yds. per game rushing

WR Must Start
DeSean Jackson- going up against Bucs defense that has allowed 9 TD passes in 4 games.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh- Housh had a great game vs. the Colts, and now gets to go against the Jags who allow 287.5 passing yds. per game. Owners should consider him and teammate Nate Burleson great options.

Other WR's with good matchups
Hines Ward
vs. Detroit
Derrick Mason vs. Bengals 26th ranked pass D.
Patrick Crayton at the Chiefs Chiefs giving up an average of 24.5 fantasy pts. to receivers.

Sleeper Alert
Pierre Garcon
vs. Titans 31st ranked pass D.

Avoid at all Costs
Antonio Bryant
- had a mild breakout game, but don't be fooled, this week against the Eagles at the Linc, he'll probably disappear.
Santana Moss - Has had two good games, but is historically inconsistent, and against the Panthers 6th ranked pass D, may not show up.

There it is, the best advice in the biz. Follow it and be a star. Tell your friends, as long as they're in a different league. Good luck!

Week 5 NFL Picks against the spread

Hey, it's nice to see that you've come back for more thinkology of the NFL variety. The doctors are in...Week 5 is here, and teams are beginning to show whether or not they're for real. We've got some great picks for you, FREE as always, and FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. On to the PICKS!

Minnesota Vikings -10 @ St. Louis Rams

Ladies and Gentlemen, step right up, don't be shy. The Vikings will cover, take it to the bank. The lambs are looking like a mediocre High School team, and the Vikings are just hitting their stride. We were actually thinking this might look more like an early season college spread, you know, like when Ohio State plays Youngstown State? We were thinking the Vikes by 40. But, we'll take the Vikes by 10. And so should you. The Rams are averaging an embarrassing 6 pts. per game, that's two field goals, that's last in the NFL, they are also last in points allowed. If you can't score, and you let the other team score a lot, you're going to be...well...the Rams. Take the Vikes -10 and load up.

Baltimore Ravens -8.5 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Ravens are coming off of a disappointing loss and are licking their chops for a chance at a division opponent coached by the likes of Marvin Lewis. Yes, we said it, he can't coach his way out of one of the sweaty paper bags over the Browns' fans heads. We threw ourselves off of a 75 mph Bengals bandwagon after last week's debacle of a showing against a team that was begging to be trampled. This week, Harbaugh's bunch will take the 'who dey' and pound it squarely into the B'more turf. Cincy is 26th against the pass, and Baltimore's young gun, Joe Flacco is averaging 275 yds. per game through the air and has already thrown 8 TD passes. Baltimore is 2-0 against the spread at home. Ravens -8.5, cha-ching!

New England Patriots -3 @ Denver Broncos
With Josh McDaniel vs. Bill Belichick, this game is pupil vs. teacher, puppet vs. puppetmaster, protege' vs. master, and we all know how those matchups work out. You've seen Rocky V, haven't you? Rock took it to Tommy Gunn in the street, baby! How about Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi? Anakin ended up without legs and needing a loud sounding respiration helmet. Or how about Pinocchio vs. Mr. Gepetto? Jiminy Cricket tried to warn him, but he ended up looking like...well, you saw the movie. Coach Hoodie will have his sleeves cut off for this one, and all his weapons intact. Welker is back so Randy Moss can resume his deep threat role, and NO ONE can cover him deep. Taking the Pats is like taking your 16 year-old older brother against your sorry 8 year-old self in a pick up game of hoops in the driveway. 'Til you grow a little, and your brother eats too many cheeseburgers, you're not going to beat him. Take the Pats.

NY Jets -1.5 @ Miami Dolphins

There is one stat you need to know for this game. RB's Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown played against Rex Ryan's defense in Baltimore twice last season. Once in the regular season, once in the playoffs, and the two combined for 79 rushing yards total. In TWO games. As you've seen the past few weeks, Ol' Rex has his defense going pretty well in NY. After this game, instead of the Wildcat, Rex will have you saying "I thought I saw a puddy tat. I DEED, I DEED see a PUDDY TAT!" Let's be clear, normally the Doctors of Footballology would tell you take the "HOME DOG ON MONDAY NIGHT" because it's about an 80% bet. However, this game will be one of the 20% because of Rex's D. The Wildcat will go nowhere, and if you take the Jets you'll be going somewhere, straight to the bank. Take Rex's Jets.

Week Six College Picks

Well, faithful followers, I see that you're curious enough to come back to see if we can keep our college picks against the spread streak going. 4-0 and counting. Just as any good doctor would tell you, everything in moderation. In other words, don't go overboard. Find a few games that you're confident with and load up on those instead of a little; on a lot of different games. Take that as your first piece of FREE advice this week. With that in mind, here are our week 6 picks.

Auburn -3 at Arkansas
Auburn is the # 1 team in total offense in the country. This stat is due in large part to Head Coach Gene Chizik's first hire, offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Malzahn was the offensive coordinator at the University of Tulsa, where they were the #1 offense in the country in '07 and '08. When you take that scheme, and put SEC caliber players in it, you have a high powered offensive concoction. That combined with Arkansas being the 97th ranked defense in the country makes this an easy pick. Inside pick... Auburn -3

Alabama -6.5 at Ole Miss

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has won his last five meetings with Ole Miss, that's with both LSU and 'Bama. This Crimson Tide team is arguably better than Saban's 2003 Nat'l Championship team at LSU, and the stable of Tide RB's (Mark Ingram, freshman phenom Trent Richardson, Terry Grant and Roy Upchurch) has already eclipsed the 1000 yd. mark. Add to that the fact that Ole Miss hasn't seen anyone with near the talent level of the Tide, you can be confident that 'Bama will cover. Inside pick... Alabama -6.5

Michigan + 7.5 at Iowa
Loyal followers, don't be fooled by Iowa's win over Penn St. Iowa had 4 takeaways against Penn St. and only won by 11 pts. Also, Northern Iowa and Arkansas St. both went to Iowa and Iowa won those games by a combined 4 pts. The Footballology professors here think Iowa will not cover the 7.5 pts. against Michigan. And, it might even be an outright Michigan win. Inside pick... Michigan +7.5

There you have it. That's right, only 3 games. Everything in moderation. If you get ahead of yourself, you're destined to lose. There are a few other marginal games, but nothing that the doctors here are comfortable recommending. Pick these three, and be a happy winner of 3.

Weekend Recap

College Weekend Success
We here at Inside Hook hope that your weekend was as good as ours. We got the weekend off to a terrific start with our college picks. And, if you were paying attention, our Lock of the Week, LSU +3, came through, as LSU beat Georgia outright. Keep it here, loyal followers, for more of the same in the coming weeks. As a matter of fact, all four of our college picks came through as predicted. Notre Dame won the game over Washington, but did not cover, so Washington +13 was a winner. Penn St. beat Illinois handily, 35-17, and they were a 6 point favorite, so, if you had Penn St. -6, our recommendation, again, you were a winner. And finally, just like we said would happen, South Florida took care of Syracuse 34-20, easily covering the 6 point spread. By our math, that's 4-0 on our college picks.

Fantasy Advice
Fantasy Football is really the most important fall activity known to mankind. That being the case, we, the Doctors of Footballogy, here at Inside Hook, take this extremely seriously. We don't just give flippant fantasy advice. We're not the "take two of these and call me in the morning" kind of Drs. When we say 'Don't forget about David Garrard against Tennessee' that's what we mean. And what did he do? He threw for 323 yds. and 3 TD's. Easily his best outing of the year, to this point. Also, Eli Manning and Steve Smith both had great days against the Chiefs, just as we predicted. Remember our Bear Goggles segment? Jay Cutler threw for 2 TD's and ran for another, and Matt Forte had his first 100+ yard rushing day. And how about that Steeler advice? Big Ben threw for 333 yds. and 2 TD's, a big day as predicted. Also, we warned you about a couple of players who did not have favorable matchups. Marques Colston was shut down by Darrelle Revis, just like we said. He only had 2 catches for 33 yds. And Ryan Grant, going up against that stout Minnesota defense Monday night was held out of the end zone, just like we thought he would be. If you want continued Fantasy success, put Inside Hook in your favorites. We're your one-stop for all things football. Make sure to check back here Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for all of next weekends football action.

Week 4 Fantasy Football

Welcome back loyal followers, it's that time of the week when we talk about the really important stuff. Fantasy Decisions. Don't you hate it when, after a couple of disappointing weeks in the lineup you bench Matt Schaub and he throws 4 TD passes? We are going to try to make sure that doesn't happen to you.

BEAR GOGGLES
Going up against Detroit's 30th ranked pass defense, Bears QB Jay Cutler is poised to have a big day. Add to that the fact that the Bears will be up a couple of TD's in the fourth qtr., Matt Forte will also finally have a breakout day, running the ball to milk the clock. These two are must starts.

CHIEF CONCERNS
As you know it's all about the matchups. You better know by now that if you have anyone playing against the Chiefs, they should definitely be starting. I'm convinced that one of these days a water boy will score on this pathetic bunch. This week the lucky recipients are the NY football Giants. Eli, Ahmad, and Mario should all be solid this week, along with Steve Smith. And how about that Giants D? The only thing the Chiefs do worse than play defense is move the ball on offense. Also, don't even think about starting LJ or Matt Cassel.

STEELERS ALL CHARGED UP!
The Chargers lax defense only has 3 sacks so far, and Big Ben is one of the hardest QB's to sack anyway. He'll be motivated after a rough 1-2 start, so make sure he's in this week. The Steelers can't run the ball, so he'll be throwing. Fast Willie Parker is still slowed by the turf toe, so our advice is, leave him on the bench.

COWBOYS RIDE INTO DENVER
Marion Barber should be back in prime form and ready to roll. He's averaged 6 yds. a carry so far, and playing against a D that hasn't seen an O-line like the Cowboys'. But let's just settle down on Tashard Choice. Even with Felix Jones out, Choice is still just a back-up. Barber's back, he's the man.

SLEEPERS
Don't forget about Jags QB David Garrard this week. He's got some nice targets to throw to, and Tennessee is 29th against the pass. And the Titans will load up the box to stop MJD. Texans wideout Kevin Walter should have a nice day against the Raiders, with Asomugha concentrating on Andre Johnson. Walter had 7 catches for 96 yds. and a TD in his debut. Also if he's still available, put on your black Barista apron and grab Glen Coffee. This kid will shine with oft injured Frank Gore out of the lineup.

CAUTION FLAGS
Normally our advice is, if you have one of the top 2-3 players at any position, play them regardless of the matchup, however, with WR Marques Colston going against Jets CB Darrelle Revis, proceed with caution. Revis has already shut down Andre Johnson (35 yds.) and Randy Moss (24 yds.) Also, when considering Ryan Grant against the Vikes, remember they have not given up a rushing TD all year.

Good luck in your games this week, and make sure to check out our fan page on facebook. Also, email us a insidehook@ymail.com and we'll answer your fantasy questions for next week in the blog.

Week 4 NFL Predictions Against the Spread

Welcome back Inside Hook loyal followers, now it's time for us to drop some NFL knowledge on you. You can thank us later. As most of you probably know, successfully picking NFL games against the spread is one of the most difficult endeavors known to man. It is tantamount to successful brain surgery or grasping the concept of molecular biophysical nuclear fission. So, with that in mind, we are scrubbed, gloved, and gowned and ready to dichotomize.

Before we begin this perplexing procedure, we feel it's only ethical to remind you, loyal followers, that there are some cutting edge surgeries that even the most skillful docs don't dare attempt. With this in mind, we give you our terminal case for week 5. Just observe this one through the glass.

Raiders at Texans line Texans by 9
The difficulty here lies in the fact that, in the words of Forrest Gump, the Texans are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. Are they gonna be the pecan caramel Texans, with Schaub and Andre Johnson connecting for multiple TD's? Or are they the pink centered creme Texans that make you want to slam on your brakes and hurl on the side of the highway? Problem #1 for the Texans is the futility of their defense against the run. They are dead last giving up 205 yds. per game. If the Raiders can get their McFad on and their Bush Rush, as in Michael Bush, they can present problems for Houston. Or, they might try to have QB JaMarcus Russell, the only entity in America less accurate than the National Weather Service, try to throw repeatedly, which would undoubtedly result in a Texan blowout. Stay far away from this one.

Faithful followers, we now present our Fantastic Four NFL picks for Week 4.

Giants -9 over the Chiefs
The Giants are 3-0 against the spread, and are playing one of the 3 worst teams, maybe in the last decade, in the NFL. The Chiefs, 0-3 against the spread, can't get anything going offensively, but that's okay, because their defense can't stop anyone either. The Chiefs are 30th in the league in total offense, and 21st in total defense. Combine that with the Giants being ranked 6th in the NFL in total offense, you have a recipe for Giant success.

Bengals -5 1/2 over the Browns

Speaking of teams circling the drain, the Browns have lost their 3 games by 14, 21 and 31 points. Based on that Mangenius weekly decline, the line this week should be 40. "But Derek Anderson is starting this week. He's the key to victory!" You might say. Derek Anderson isn't the key to a rusted out '74 Pinto. Take the Bengals, trust us, we're doctors.

Bills -2 over the Dolphins

This week, the demise of the Dolphins lies in the fact that QB Chad Pennington, the most accurate passer in NFL history, is gone for the year. To add insult to injury, unproven Chad Henne will be called on to sub. Did you ever learn anything when you had a substitute teacher in 6th grade, other than the rules of Heads Up Seven Up? Henne's career QB rating is a paltry 55.7. Heads down, thumbs up. You want more? The Bills get a fresh set of legs in Marshawn Lynch to take some of the burden off of successful fill-in, Fred Jackson.

Cowboys -3 over the Broncos
What? The Broncos are 3-0! They're playing at home! The Broncos at 3-0, are as fraudulent as a Bernie Madoff scheme. They have beaten the 0-3 Browns, the 1-2 Raiders and the Bengals on a complete tangy zip Miracle Whip Stokely tip. ( I don't know, it all rhymes ) The Cowboys will saddle up their #1 rushing attack of Marion Barber and Tashard Choice and will dominate the line of scrimmage with their big offensive line. This will be the difference in the game.
